PHYSICAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Finding Truth in the Tangible

These portraits, shot on giant film with a homemade camera, show artisans channeling passion into their physical works. The scene is recorded onto a negative, chemically developed, and printed directly onto light-sensitive paper.

On July 25, 2026, come see these works as part of the Jettison Creative Artist in Residence program in San Francisco, California. These scans are wonderful, but the full tangible experience includes redwood frames I have hand crafted, as well as a peek at my instant photo collection, reaching back nearly a decade.

Hayley Marilao, Crochet.

Marci Garcia, Iron work.

Manuel Avilos, Leather work.

Jessica Chiang, Cut paper flowers.

Aarzoo Chundawat, Charcoal on Paper.

The below self portraits were taken with the help of Ollie Hsieh.
